Though Tonga is the last remaining Polynesian monarchy, the king is relinquishing his control in many areas of the government. Most notably, the parliamentarians, who used to be chosen by the king and his advisers, now are elected by the people.
After graduating college and teaching English in Spain, I'm working in Tonga as an English teacher. I work in a primary school with 22 students and two other teachers.
I live on the island of Kauvai along with about 350 Tongans. There's electricity from 7pm-2am, and running water... sometimes.
